Global MDO: Conformable and Productive
A Home and Personal Care Labelling Breakthrough
Fasson® Global MDO brings to conformable labelling for the first time ever the ease of conversion previously seen only with non-conformable films. It makes semi-squeezable container labels achievable at higher print speeds and with reliable die cutting. The new material ensures better clarity for clear label or opacity in case of white label, reduces roll changes and cuts raw material use.
The shelf impact that can be achieved in Home and Personal Care applications has been transformed by Fasson® Global MDO:
- A new, semi-squeezable film with high clarity or whiteness, plus strength and stability
- Optimal stiffness for high speed applications
- Inherent printability with UV screen, UV flexo, letterpress and solvent gravure
- A new water-resistant adhesive with up to 50% lower ooze and best-in-class wet-out
- A recyclable PET liner that eliminates web breaks and dust contamination.
Productivity gains – almost double the Labels
By almost doubling the number of labels for the same roll diameter, Fasson® Global MDO creates very significant productivity gains. The scale of savings can be easily calculated using the Fasson® Global MDO Total Applied Cost model.

Manufactured to Perform
Fasson® Global MDO manufacture uses polymer blending, co-extrusion and machine-direction-orientation (MDO) to give excellent machine direction stiffness. The film gives excellent clarity or opacity (clear/white versions) as well as superior resistance to product spillage, moisture and other challenges. Its robust print skin can be corona-treated to give bolder and more vibrant graphics on the shelf.
Going green: Global MDO versus PE85
Avery Dennison has conducted a Life Cycle Assessment for conventional Fasson® PE85 and for Fasson® Global MDO.
Reduction in mass is one important driver for higher levels of sustainability, with substantially less material used. Compared with PE85, Global MDO improved sustainability in all assessed categories, giving environmental performance improvements of between 3% and 97%:

Replacing the total current annual usage of Fasson® PE85 label materials with Fasson® Global MDO would save over 2,000 trees and 2,000 barrels of oil. It would offset the emissions of over 900 cars, save the electricity used by more than 20,000 households and reduce solid waste equivalent to that produced by more than 5,600 households.
